A couple in Turkey showed that they needed far less than 140 characters to express their eternal love for each other, by exchanging wedding vows via Twitter and iPad.

Groom Cengizhan Celik and his bride Candan Canik got married by tweeting the Turkish word “Evet,” or “Yes,” on
their iPads, the New York Daily News reported.

Their officiant Mustafa Kara, a local mayor, had prompted them before to say “I do” with a tweet.

The groom is a social media editor for the news website ensonhaber.com, and reportedly told the site that he and his bride incorporated the microblogging site into the wedding, as they wanted “a little surprise.”

In a video of the ceremony posted on the groom’s news site, the couple can be seen typing out their tweets and holding up their iPad’s, as cameras go crazy.

Celik live-tweeted the marriage proceedings in Turkish, posting “Let the fun begin” before updating his account with a series of tweets throughout the day.

As word of their story spread, he retweeted his followers’ well wishes.

“Turkey’s first wedding ... on Twitter,” read one of the messages that Celik retweeted.

Meanwhile, his wife has only posted one message on her Twitter account - her “I do.”

The couple later inked their intentions the old-fashioned way - using a pen for signing a formal marriage certificate.
