The native Apple Maps have been an object of ridicule for a while now, but things took a turn for the worse after six people got lost while trying to find Mildura in Victoria, Australia, and had to be rescued. Authorities then warned motorists about using Apple Maps on the iPhone’s latest operating system, because errors could prove deadly.
So, it came as a relief when Google Maps made a comeback to the platform. Last heard, this single app had resulted in more people upgrading to iOS 6 than all other apps put together.
Pros: Turn-by-turn navigation, which is extremely accurate. The option to use satellite maps and an in-built Google Earth integration. You can also point the phone in the general direction that you are heading in, and see all the major landmarks as well as popular restaurans, malls and shops listed in the vicinity. Very useful, especially in India where you may not know the official names of the roads, but know of a major landmark.
Cons: Almost nothing, apart from the fact that you need an upgrade to get it.
verdict: The app is a must get, if you travel often in Mumbai. It can save you a lot of time usually spent asking for directions.
