Google lights a candle in memory of Delhi braveheart

A candle on search engine giant Google's India page says it all. Google has paid a tribute to the Delhi braveheart who fought a brave battle for her life.

With a simple candle on its homepage saying "In memory of the Delhi braveheart", Google mourned with a nation grieving for the
young life brutally snuffed out.

The 23-year-old woman died after being gangraped and beaten on a bus in New Delhi was cremated privately on Sunday as millions of grieving, angry residents demanded greater protection for women from sexual violence.

The cremation took place in New Delhi soon after the woman's body arrived in the capital on a special Air India flight from Singapore, where she died at a hospital on Saturday after being sent for medical treatment.

She had suffered brain injuries and massive internal damage in the attack on Dec 16, and died in hospital in Singapore where she had been taken for treatment.

She and a male friend had been returning home from the cinema, media reports say, when six men on a bus beat them with metal rods and repeatedly raped the woman. The friend survived.

Six suspects were charged with murder after her death.
