It’s taken four months but Google’s smartphone and tablet tracking app is finally available to download from Google Play.

Google launched Android Device Manager, a web-based service to let Android phone and tablet users find their devices if lost or stolen, back in August.

The much-needed feature displays the location of a device on a map and even lets users shut it down, erase it or make it ring, in the hope of attracting a passer-by’s attention.

However, until now, Android Device Manager was web-only so Google has launched an app version which offers all of the same functionality and is now free to download from the Google Play store.
