The third expansion for "Borderlands 2," called Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, is due for release on January 15 across Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3, with the date announcement accompanied by a twee black and white trailer.

In keeping with the colonial British affectations of the
half-man, half-robotic game character Sir Hammerlock, the Big Game Hunt will send players off on a mission to track some of Pandora's most savage creatures, while challenged by some of Handsome Jack's loyalist remnant.
The first significant batch of "Borderlands 2" post-release content, Captain Scarlett & Her Pirate's Booty, was generally well received, with some quarters suggesting that it was of higher quality than the main game itself.
November's release, Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage, was generally met with less enthusiasm, though Torgue remained engaging enough as an antagonist.
Still, while each episode costs $10 on its own, a $30 Season Pass nets punters Scarlett, Torgue, Hammerlock, and an unnannounced fourth download.
Publisher Take-Two pushed 5 million copies of the game out to retail in September, in advance of annual updates from more established action games such as "Assassin's Creed" and "Call of Duty."
Next up on the slate is "BioShock Infinite," due in March 2013, and "Grand Theft Auto V," tabled for spring.
