Previously teased as "The Phantom Pain" but with all the hallmarks of a wild goose chase orchestrated by auteur game director Hideo Kojima, "Metal Gear Solid V" has been announced for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
No timescale for release has been given, but a trailer for "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" is as cinematic as it is full of obscure hints for fans of the series, stuffed to the gills with hallmark international subterfuge, cloned secret agents, mysterious strangers and high-octane encounters.
"Metal Gear Solid V" also acts as a showreel for a new game engine, the FOX Engine, which is to power not only "Metal Gear Solid V" but the upcoming "Pro Evolution Soccer 2014" as well.
As such, it seems likely that "MGS V" or its linked counterpart, "Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes," will be appearing on PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's next machine, though it may take until an official reveal of the next Xbox for confirmation to emerge.
