Bidaai season 2 on its way?

In less than six months after it ended, one of Star Plus’s biggest prime time TRP contributors, Sapnaa Babul Ka Bidaai, will return with its next season. It will take off from where the last season ended.

Sakshi (Sulagna Panigrahi) was married to Alekh (Angad Hasija), and Ragini (Parul Chauhan) tied the knot with Anmol (Apoorva Agnihotri). The show’s last episode showed the leading ladies’ on-screen daughters, Khushi and Tamanna, one fair and the other dark skinned, talking to their grand-father, hinting that there could be a season two.

Anupam Vasudev, executive vice president, marketing, Star Plus, confirms that Sapnaa Babul Ka Bidaai went off air with a promise to return. “We’ve not put a date to it as yet, but it was always expected to come back. It was evident, because not every daily climaxes with an open end,” he asserts. “Bidaai will always be acknowledged as one of our prime properties. However, the second season may not happen immediately. It may take us some time.”

Sapnaa Babul Ka Bidaai was also one of producer-director Rajan Shahi’s first productions under his banner. Though he is unaware of the channel’s thoughts on the second season. “When the show ended, I had a meeting with the channel’s programming team and I was assured that we’ll have a second season. After that, I haven’t heard from anyone. But I must admit that over the last two days, almost the entire cast of the show has called me to ask whether we’re ready for the next season,” he states.

Meanwhile, most of the show’s actors have moved on to other dailies. Sara Khan has taken over as Mona in Zee TV’s Ram Milayee Jodi. Parul Chauhan plays Surbhi in Colors’s Pratha. Angad Hasija is toying with two shows: Luteri Dulhan on Imagine and Phulwa on Colors and Kinshuk Mahajan plays one of the male leads in Star Plus’s Chand Chupa Badal Mein.

If the show does return over the next few months, would it be possible to get the original cast back together? “I don’t know. I’m just happy that all my discoveries have found work and are doing well,” smiles Shahi. “If I’m still producing the next season, I think it will just take a phone call to get everyone on the floor.”
