Iqbal Khan, who has been away from TV for two years, is back with a new show called Tumhari Pakhi. The actor has previously starred in hits like Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai (KYPH) and Sanjog Se Bani Sangini. Once a favourite of producer Ekta Kapoor, he talks about his equation with her and taking frequent breaks.
Why did you take such a long break?
I have been pretty consistent in my long breaks (laughs). It’s out of choice most of the time. When you are doing a daily show, you don’t have time for anything else. You shoot 25-30 days a month with no days off, which is cool with me. But once it’s wrapped up, you want to try something else or just take a break. This time, my break lasted longer because of my daughter.
Do you worry about success and failure?
These things are not in your hands, so there’s no point worrying about them. I believe in working honestly and leaving the rest to God. You have to have a balance at work and home, and try to be a good person.
You let go of two shows — Mahabharat and Maharana Pratap.
The roles and shows were good, but they needed long outdoor shoots. I can’t shift base as I have a family here. I didn’t want to be away from my daughter for too long.
You had a fallout with Ekta Kapoor. Have you patched up?
I didn’t have a problem, and I don’t know about her. When there’s an issue between two people, it’s the middle men who create differences. I haven’t met her in years, but if I bump into her, I’ll say hi. She made my biggest show (KYPH) and people still remember me as my character, Angad.
