Over a month ago, Kavita Kaushik raised eyebrows when she left her hit serial FIR, at the peak of its popularity, for a new show, Total Weds Maina (TWM). The actor, who’d become a household name for playing a defiant cop, Chandramukhi Chautala, in the comedy serial, was looking for a change and hence looked forward to the new show. But TWM failed to rake in the TRPs, thus forcing the channel — Sab TV — to pull the plug on it. The show will go off air in the first week of April.
Ask Kavita about it and she confirms, “It is the channel’s decision. I guess they were expecting too much too soon, in terms of TRPs. What can I do?” However, buzz is that the makers of FIR want Kavita to return to the show. When the actor quit the show, it had taken a time leap, with actor Chitrashi Rawat playing Chautala’s daughter and a cop herself. However, Kavita divulges no details. “FIR is my show and I wish it all the best. My decision of leaving FIR had nothing to do with how TWM fared. I was with FIR for almost eight years and I’ve enjoyed every bit of the experience. Now it’s time for me to look ahead for new opportunities and not just keep going back to what I left behind.”
For the moment, Kavita wants to de-stress by going on a holiday. “I was exhausted working non-stop. I am looking forward to spending some time at home now. I also want to take vacations — in India and abroad.” She doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to take on new projects either. “I won’t sign anything unless it’s really good and excites me. I have made good money. So I won’t do TV just for money. I am happy with whatever happened. Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise for me.”
