Actor Gaurav Gera aka the nerdy Nandu from Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, is all set to drape the sari, choli and lip gloss as he hits the tube with his latest stint as an uber chic and fashionista housewife, Mrs Pammi Pyarelal. Known for his comic roles in umpteen tele soaps as well as Bollywood films, the 33-year-old admits that it took him at least 20 times more time to get into the character’s outfit and makeup, compared to the other male characters he has played earlier, involving just a “powder puff”.

“Now I know why these women take so much time to get ready on the sets, and why they open their earrings and high heels in between takes! It’s not easy being a woman, and my respect for them has gone up a hundred times,” says Gera, whose show hits the screen on Colors, next week onwards. With the promos on air for almost a couple of months now, there was a lot of curiosity around the person behind the character. While for the audience, Gera playing the role is more of a surprise, for his family, it was a shock. “Seeing the promo on TV my mom told dad, ‘Is ladke ko thappad marne ka mann nahin karta?’ To top it all, my girlfriend was like, ‘How can you be girlier than me!’ My entire family was shocked,” says Gera, who says that he left no inhibitions while playing the role of a woman as he’s always been a sucker for variety.
