Former world number one player Jelena Jankovic of Serbia continued her good form in the Asian leg of the WTA tour, beating Denisa Allertova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-0 to win the Guangzhou Open title in Guangzhou, China, on Saturday.
Jankovic has yet to lose a match in China this season, having won a lower-tier WTA series event in Nanchang. She dominated against Allertova, converting all three of her break points in the first set and saving all three she faced in the second.
“It’s amazing to win a title in China for the second time this year — obviously China is very special to me,” Jankovic said.
The fourth-seeded Jankovic won the last 11 games to seal her 14th WTA title. Allertova was playing in her first WTA final after beating top-seeded Simona Halep of Romania in straight sets in the quarterfinals and third seed Sara Errani of Italy in the semifinals.
“It was an amazing time for me here,” said Allertova. “I’m so happy I could beat so many good players here and play my first final. Jelena was too good, but I’m happy with my week.”
Jankovic will play in next week’s Wuhan Open tournament in China.
