Supreme Court reminds governors not to delay assent to bills

State governors must keep in mind the expression “as soon as possible” in Article 200 of the Constitution while giving their assent to bills passed by the state legislature, the Supreme Court said on Monday.

The Supreme Court said Article 200 of the Constitution says “the Governor may, as soon as possible, after the presentation to him of the bill for assent, return the bill if it is not a money bill.” (PTI)

HC refuses to quash FIR against professor for putting up “Aug 5 Black Day for J&K” status

Hajam had moved the high court for quashing the FIR registered against him by Hatkanagale police station in Kolhapur district under section 153-A of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste or community or any other ground whatsoever or bringing about disharmony or feeling of hatred or ill-will

The basis for registration of the FIR were the two messages posted by him as WhatsApp status - “AUGUST 5 BLACK DAY JAMMU & KASHMIR” and “14th August Happy Independence Day, Pakistan.” (StockPic)

HC seeks govt reply on plea against IT rules amendment
