The package was sanctioned and released in favour of the displaced persons so that they can be provided some financial support for their rehabilitation by the government.
The three-day protest is underway at 17 places in Punjab, including Moga, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, Sangrur, Patiala, Ferozepur, Bathinda, and Amritsar.
The movement of several trains was affected and according to railway officials, several trains were either cancelled or short-terminated because of the farmers’ agitation.
The majority of the participating farmer bodies are from Punjab, but movement has garnered support from farmers'outfits from several states across India.
The decision was announced by Sarwan Singh Pandher, the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary, following a meeting of representatives of 19 farmers’ bodies.
