Amazon courts controversy again, sells toilet covers with Golden Temple pics

Amazon, an e-commerce giant, has courted controversy again by displaying bathroom rugs, toilet seat covers and mats as goods to be sold online carrying images of Golden Temple, the holiest Sikh shrine. Enraged over it, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Saturday sent a legal notice to Amazon.

Gobind Singh Longowal re-elected SGPC chief; House passes resolution condemning Ayodhya verdict

Gobind Singh Longowal was unanimously re-elected Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president at the apex gurdwara body’s annual election on Wednesday afternoon. Longowal was expected to retain the post as he enjoys the blessings of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal who controls the body that manages the affairs of historic Sikh shrines in north India.

Plea for women to perform kirtan: SGPC slams assembly resolution, Akal Takht non-committal

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday slammed the resolution the Punjab Vidhan Sabha passed unanimously a day before asking the Akal Takht and the apex gurdwara body to allow women to perform kirtan at the Golden Temple. Even as the Shiromani Akali Dal-controlled gurdwara body president Gobind Singh Longowal criticised the assembly’s move, acting jathedar of the Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of Sikhism, remained non-committal on the issue.

‘HINDU RASHTRA’ REMARK Akal Takht jathedar demands ban on RSS

Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Tuesday demanded a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) while terming as ‘divisive’ the statement of its chief Mohan Bhagwat that India is a ‘Hindu Rashtra’. Replying to a question, the jathedar said the RSS should be banned immediately for the benefit of the country.
