Work on longest metro rail from Virar to Alibaug kicks off
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is conducting a feasibility study for a 136km metro rail project from Virar to Alibaug in Mumbai. The project is part of the Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor and is expected to be completed by 2030. The metro line will connect important suburbs and will run parallel to the multimodal corridor. A detailed project report will be prepared once the feasibility study is complete. The location of the car depot is yet to be decided. The state government may hand over the project to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
