Tej Bahadur was sacked from the BSF in 2017 after he uploaded a video on social media complaining about the food served to the BSF personnel. Yadav had filed his nomination against Narendra Modi from Varanasi in the Lok Sabha polls but his nomination was rejected.
Sacked BSF jawan and SP candidate Tej Bahadur’s candidature was cancelled from Varanasi which the former paramilitary man termed as discriminatory and unreasonable move.
Yadav, who was dismissed in 2017 after he posted a video online complaining about the food served to the troops, was fielded by the Samajwadi Party as its candidate from the Varanasi seat.
Later on Wednesday, the EC rejected the nomination papers of Yadav on the ground that the former jawan could not furnish a certificate from the BSF, stating that he was not sacked on charges of corruption or disloyalty to the State.
Legal adviser to the Election Commission, SK Mendiratta said, “There is a rule under the Representation of People’s Act that disqualifies a government employee dismissed from service from contesting elections for a period of five years.”
