Sindhu joined the Indian charge, edging out Denmark’s eighth seed Mia Blichfeldt 21-19, 22-20 to set up a weekend clash with China’s He Bingjiao, who beat last year’s winner Zhang 21-18, 26-24 in the women’s singles draw.
Third seeded Sindhu, who clinched three silver medals this season -- Commonwealth Games, World Championship and Asian Games -- lost 17-21 21-17 15-21 to the eighth seeded Chinese in the quarterfinal.
