Gurdaspur attack

topics Updated: May 24, 2016 15:18 IST

The attack by three Pakistan-trained terrorists on a police station in Gurdaspur district was said to be the biggest militant violence since the end of insurgency in Punjab by the mid-1990s. The attack killed three civilians and four policemen, including a superintendent of police while fifteen others were injured. A Punjab Police SWAT team aided by Army personnel later killed all the terrorists after a stand-off lasting several hours. The recovery of GPS devices on the slain militants, which showed their route from across the international border, proved their Pakistan origins
