The Indian Railways is one of the world’s largest railway networks with more than 115,000 km of track over a 65,808 km route. It is the world’s seventh largest commercial or utility employer, by number of employees, with more than 1.334 million employees as of last published figures in 2013. The Indian Railways operations are spread across 29 states and seven union territories. It also provides limited international services to Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
