Born on November 21, 1939, in Uttar Pradesh, former Union minister Mulayam Singh is the founder-president of the Samajwadi Party. In the 16th Lok Sabha, he represents Azamgarh in the lower house. Inspired and influenced by the socialist ideology of Ram Manohar Lohia, he has held the UP chief minister’s position thrice. His son, Akhilesh, is now the CM of the state. Mulayam and his party’s names surface whenever there are talks of a Third Front (an anti-BJP, anti-Congress bloc), which has never been able to take off due to ideological differences among regional parties.
