Born in 1951, Najeeb Jung is the 20th and the serving lieutenant governor of Delhi. He took charge in 2013. Jung has a history of differences with chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has even called the LG an agent of the BJP. The two sides have sparred over the appointment and transfer of senior bureaucrats as well as the functioning of Anti-Corruption Branch. The conflict stems from Delhi’s unique position as the national capital, where several important departments such as police and law and order, in addition to key agencies such as the DDA, function under the LG, who reports to the Union home ministry.
