Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is India’s biggest cleanliness drive yet, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014 and aims to make the country open defecation free and clean up public places by 2019. A year after the campaign kicked off, critics noted that inadequate funds, lack of capacity of municipalities and district panchayats, and an ineffective awareness campaign are critical limitations of the ambitious project.
