How often do you crave to escape the mundane schedule of life and backpack to a far-off destination? Is it leisure travel that you desire or some high-on-adrenaline, crazy adventure? If thrill is what you seek, you needn't plan a trip abroad, as India, too, has a host of adventure events and fests to offer. You'd easily be able to strike off motorsport, surfing, paragliding and glacier treks, among many other such sports, from your bucket list.

Here's a lowdown on five adventure events in India to watch out for this year. So, what are you waiting for? It's time you set out on an exhilarating quest.

Up for a bike race in the mountains?
Set in the Himalayas, this nine-day mountain bike race takes you around some of the most beautiful and uncharted interiors and forests of the mountains. The race, currently in its 11th edition, covers a distance of 500 kms at a height of 3,250 metres above sea level and has various competitive and non-competitive categories.

Take this motorsport challenge
Touted as one of the toughest off-road motorsport events in the world, RFC's India Chapter tests the competing off-roaders' driving and vehicle recovery skills under extreme off-road conditions. Would you dare to take up the challenge?

Sky is the limit
After a successful Pre World Cup last year, Kangra will play host to a week of paragliding activity with entrants from around the world fighting for the top honours. Other activities at this World Cup include an air show and hot air ballooning.

Started in 1999, Raid-de-Himalaya is an annual event that has enthusiasts from across the world come together to compete for honours in the highest off-road challenge in the world.

A trek to remember
Supported by the British Heart Foundation, this challenging trek to the base of Mt Everest provides a unique opportunity to test your endurance, witness the tallest peak in the world and do your bit for a noble cause at the same time. Not just that, you'd experience a breathtaking view as you trek.
