Located about 10km from the main city centre, many Bangaloreans consider Brigade Gateway, the new ‘lifestyle enclave’ in Bangalore just a bit too far. The area, one of the city’s swanky new creations, boasts of malls, a hospital and apartment complexes built for a 21st century city. They even have a man-made lake!
The Sheraton Bangalore, Brigade Gateway, has turned this very complaint of the locals into an advantage, placing itself as a new, state-of-the-art hotel for the business traveler, or those looking for a quick getaway from the bustle of the city.
The Club Lounge, touted as a ‘hotel within a hotel’, offers private dining services to members, and nice views of the surrounding areas. One of the big advantages of staying at Sheraton hotels is their benefits program through the Starwood privileges program. The biggest advantage? No blackout dates on hotels around the world.
The hotel is also working with the nearby Columbia Asia Hospital to offer medical tourism packages for those coming to Bangalore for treatment. Like many hotels around the world, the Sheraton has adopted various eco-friendly measures. The hotel uses treated recycled water in the toilets, recycles waste and uses energy efficient LED lighting. The hotel also offers rewards (ranging from a free drink to meals) for guests whose stay has a low carbon footprint. Something to think about before you give a once-used towel for laundry.
The hotel also boasts of special pillows (they are really comfortable) and a unique ‘gym-in-the-bag’ concept which allows guests to work out in their room if they wish.
The staff at the hotel gets a solid 9/10. The service is impeccable. Whether it was the restaurants, room service or lobby staff, everyone was eager to please, helpful and courteous. Even the hotel chauffeur (who picked us from the airport) was knowledgeable about the city, and could rapidly answer our most mundane questions, including “how far is the hotel?” or “where can I find Sapad in Bangalore?” On a more personal note, after having forgotten my sunglasses at Durbar, the hotel’s chic watering hole, I found them safely deposited at the lost & found. Always a hallmark of a good hotel if they pick up after my tardiness
Food gets a 7/10. Dinner at the Persian Terrace, the restaurant near the pool is a must for all guests, since weather in Bangalore is conducive for outdoor dining. Breakfast at the coffee shop is extensive, with the south Indian getting my thumbs up. Bene, the Italian restaurant, has some excellent dishes and a live band, if that’s your fancy.
