Indian budget travellers spend the most on flights

Indians are known for their love for travel, and while most families tend to have at least one vacation in a year, several others take more than one vacation, annually. So, where do Indian travellers really like to go? A study reveals that most of them like to go for a beach ­vacation, since they consider it to be most cost ­efficient, ­followed by vacations ­centered around historical or cultural sight-seeing.

While on an unlimited budget, travellers globally expect cruises to be most luxurious (39%) with Indians most likely to expect cruises to be most luxurious (33%), followed by beach vacations (9%) When ­travelling in their own ­country, Norwegians expect to spend the most on ­transportation, accommodation, food and beverage and activities, followed by the Japanese, Canadians and Australians.

By contrast, 79% of Indians expect to spend $500 (`30,000) or less (per person) for a week’s vacation inside their own country. It has also been found that globally, the ­largest proportion of ­travellers’ budget goes into accommodation (24%), ­followed by flights (19%), food (18%), shopping (7%), tours (7%) entertainment (7%), local transportation (5%).

Globally, travellers devote more of their travel budget to alcoholic ­beverages (5%) than they do on rental cars (3%). Indian travellers dedicate the ­largest share of their travel budget to flights (19%), ­followed by ­accommodation (16%) and food (14%). The least amount of their travel budget goes to alcoholic ­beverages (4%), the survey said.
