Room 77, the website which allows travelers to review individual hotel rooms, has announced a major upgrade to its site that allows customers to request a specific room when booking.
The new functionality, dubbed a 'Room Concierge', means that travelers can select the rooms in a hotel which they prefer from a digital floorplan and their request is forwarded to the hotel at the time of booking.
Users would be informed whether their room request was successful within 48 hours of arrival, Room 77 said.
The new functionality also allows travelers to compare pricing for multiple room categories in a simple grid format, in contrast to many sites, which simply show the cheapest room rates.
Room77 won widespread praise in the technology and travel industries for offering hotel reviews on a more useful, granular level than review giant TripAdvisor, adding over 120,000 hotels worldwide to its database.
However, when the site launched earlier this year consumers were left to take up the issue of room choice with the hotel themselves -- a spokesperson for Room77 told Relaxnews at the recent World Travel Market event in London that Thursday's release 'closed the loop' on the service Room77 provides.
While there are still no guarantees that Room 77 will be offered the room they request, the site says that it will also include hotel-specific tips to increase the odds of getting a preferred room at check-in.
