This time the competition was on TV. Sony Entertainment’s world TV premiere of Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots has scored 10.9 points on the TRP chart this week, beating Ghajini’s TV premiere score of 8 points approximately in mid-2009 on Colors.
Sony jumped 108 points from last week. It has touched the 270 points mark, its highest in the last 18 months. Compared to last week’s 312 points, Colors has scored 289 points this week, and is just 19 points ahead of Sony, which is now its closest competitor.
Incidentally, Salman Khan’s entry into the Colors camp and Amitabh Bachchan’s entry into the Sony camp has also happened only recently. How does Sony Entertainment plan to continue its race for the top slot?
Ajit Thakur, EVP and business head, Sony, says, “With all our daily shows and reality capsules doing well, we’ll crack it before Kaun Banega Crorepati starts in October. The industry speculated that we’d climb just 30-40 points. But 108 points came as an eye-opener for many, including our top competitors.”
The war gets hotter in October. Sony Entertainment has Bachchan hosting KBC 4. Akshay Kumar will host Master Chef on Star Plus and Salman Khan will anchor Bigg Boss 4 on Colors.
