Even before

Mukti Bandhan

, the latest show on entertainment channel Colors hit the screen, there was buzz that it is based on late industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani’s life. The speculation has become even stronger since it came on air, but the protaganist, actor Shiv Subramanium says that this is not true. “It is not based on Dhirubhai Ambani’s life. It is a rags to riches story, is inspired by a Gujarati novel and has a Gujarati protaganist, that is why people are relating the two. However, it is a completely fictional story. The novel written by Harkishan Mehta,” says Shiv.

-actor says that he did not take inspiration from any industrialist to prepare for the role. “I didn’t do anything like that. We have seen many such people in life. I just had to know his character sketch, somebody who is composed and had made it on his own.”

The show is about Subramanium, who plays IM Virani, a poor man from a small town but has worked his way up with grit and determination to become the fourth largest industrialist in the country.

Subramanium feels that while many films take inspiration from novels, the same is yet to happen in the world of television. “Novels are a very rich source of information and more serials should be based on them,” he says.
