Akshay Kumar, who will be hosting the desi version of Top Chef, which is currently in its season seven internationally and is hosted by model Padma Lakshmi, has reportedly requested Star Plus to bring his show in the same time slot as Priyanka Chopra’s Khatron Ke Khiladi Season Three.
“He’s bugged with Endemol and Colors. But he believes in having healthy competition in every space he enters. So, probably when he sits with the channel personnel to finalise the remaining details of his Top Chef show, he will formally ask the channel to air it in August-September when Priyanka’s show goes on air,” says a source.
Another bunch of industry officials say that Kumar may not find anyone to compete with, because Chopra’s show might take longer than expected to go on air, because of the difficulties in roping in the contestants.
“It’s still difficult to say whether Top Chef’s desi version will be aired in the daily prime time slot. With Akshay as a host, the channel may want to strengthen their weekend slot further since it is currently going strong with Zara Nachke Dikha with Shilpa Shetty as one of the co-judges. We’ll have to wait and watch,” says a source under the condition of anonymity. Akshay Kumar’s spokesperson didn’t revert despite several phone calls.
