Ammaji is back on television
Actor Meghna Malik promises that her new role will be an impressive one too
We last saw her as the terrifying ‘Ammaji’ in the hit show, Na Aana is Des Laado, about a year back. And now, actor Meghna Malik is back on TV, albeit with a role that’s a complete contrast to her previous avatar. The versatile actor will be essaying the character of an urban elite woman in a seemingly happy family life but with her psychological conflicts to fight with.
“I play the role of Barkha. She’s a loving wife, a caring mother but what got me interested in this role was the story behind her... the turmoil she’s going through inside,” says the 41-year-old actor from Sonipat, who had graduated from Delhi’s National School of Drama, and has acted in many Bollywood films, including Chalte Chalte, Kuch Naa Kaho and Taare Zameen Par.
Talking about how her character in the new show, Gustakh Dil on Like Ok is different from that of Ammaji, she says, “Ammaji was in complete control of things, but Barkha is vulnerable... she’s always living on the edge.” And how does she feel when she is recognised as Ammaji even to this day? “An actor lives to be recognised so of course, it feels wonderful! When I started, I never knew Ammaji would be so big,” says Malik, who was also recently seen in a dance reality show.
Gustakh Dil that started yesterday, is loosely based on a successful bengali fiction series, Bou Kotha Kou (2008-2012).
