Actor Shilpa Shinde has been in the news lately for quitting the comedy show Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain and signing up for another show. The actor has accused the makers of mental torture and said that they asked her sign a contract barring her from doing other shows.
Producer Benaifer Kohli, who has sent her a legal notice, says they had no other option. “It was getting too much to bear and we finally had to go the legal way,” she says.
Talking about how the controversy developed, Kohli says the production house as well as the channel have been facing an issue from her side for quite a while now. “The channel has a policy that their lead actors will be exclusive to the network, which has multiple channels, but you cannot work on a competing network. There were some actors who didn’t agree and didn’t come on board, others said ok, but that they will charge a certain amount. One year ago, Shilpa Shinde signed an exclusivity contract and has been charging exorbitant fee. That is in black and white. She has been telling people that after one year she should get a raise, but her contract said that she will not get a raise for two years. Yet, she forced us to increase her money twice this time,” reveals Kohli.
However, Kohli says that she is still open to Shilpa working in the show again. “I am still asking her to come back. Enjoy your success. Don’t mix up a good character with good acting. Very few characters have worked. But you have no right to defame and degrade us. We have created you,” she says.
The producer adds that while Shilpa has claimed that her co-actors have got preferential treatment on the show, the cast and crew have no hard feelings against the actor. “My cast and crew have been with me for years. Their mindset is like mine. Even if she comes back, we will not hold anything against her. We are only interested in how to make the show better. We are not interested in fighting with anyone. No one has bothered to react to her,” says Kohli.
