Apart from reality shows, Bollywood stars are now making cameo appearances in various daily soaps to promote their films. Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Salman Khan, Mallika Sherawat and Neetu Kapoor are some of the names. According to industry experts it is an arrangement that benefits the big and small screen stars.
"TV is the best way to connect with the audience," says Aatish Kapadia, writer-director of Khichdi-The Movie, the cast of which appeared on Sab TV’s show, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, recently. Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, too, starred in the same show to promote Do Dooni Chaar. "The characters of our film could be integrated into the show since both target family audience," says Habib Faisal, the director.
In the process, the script of the show is tweaked to accommodate the star. Bachchan made an appearance in Balika Vadhu on Colors just before the release of Drona. Sharman Joshi and Vatsal Seth appeared on a Valentine’s Day special of a show while promoting Toh Baat Pakki. Ajay Devgn featured in an episode of Crime Patrol to promote Aakrosh.
Akshay Kumar made a cameo appearance on Star Plus’ Sasural Genda Phool to promote Khatta Meetha. Ditto Salman Khan for Dabangg on Laagi Tujhse Lagan on Colors.
Emraan Hashmi and Prachi Desai made a guest appearance on Sony’s CID, for Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. John Abraham featured in two Sab TV shows — FIR and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma — to promote Jhootha Hi Sahi that releases today.
Mallika Sherawat was seen doing a naagin dance in the Colors’ daily soap, Naa Aana Iss Des Laado to promote Hisss.
