Yash Raj Films to make its television debut on January 1 with five shows.

Yash Raj Films will make its television debut in the new year with five shows, and that too in the prime-time slot (8 pm to 10 pm) during the weekends (Friday to Sunday).

The Chopras have entered into an exclusive agreement with Sony Entertainment Television (now Multi-Screen Media Pvt Ltd) to produce fiction and non-fiction shows, which will go on air from January 1. Manjit Singh, CEO of the channel, attributes this partnership to the long association they share with Yashraj Films. “We have shown a number of Yashraj movies over the years. So when they started looking at producing software for TV, we wanted to partner with them,” he says.

The result is four serials and a reality show for starters. One is

Mahi Way

, with which Sharon Pabhakar makes her TV debut too. She plays the protagonist who works in a fashion magazine, but is largely ignored. How she deals with it and makes herself seen and heard forms the crux of the story.

Jugal Hansraj, who is directing

Pyaar Impossible

for the Chopras, will be seen in

. This show also features Shruti Seth and Suchitra Pillai. The studio major is also making


, an action adventure. It starts off with an edge-of-the-seat chase sequence with the cops on the trail of a gangster. Then, there’s


in which Shama Sikandar plays a key role.

Karan Johar returns to play host again, with

Lift Karade

, a reality show. Earlier known as

Mera Sabse Bada Fan Banega Mera Hero

, this show will feature the biggest fans of Bollywood stars. Twenty stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Dharmendra, AR Rahman, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Kajol, Priyanka Chopra, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta, Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu and Lata Mangeshkar will feature during the show.
