It’s just not the movies – right from Madhumati and Karz to Om Shanti Om — which have attracted audiences with their born-again themes. It’s happening on TV too.

Most of the characters populating Waqt Batayega Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya will soon be born again.

Producer Dheeraj Kumar says the viewers for the Sony TV’s 10:30 pm show are mainly men in the small towns.

A saas-bahu show wouldn’t work. On the other hand, reincarnation stories are the best bait for TRPs.

After marriage Heroine Payel Sarkar will get married after which rebirth will follow. That’s quite a headtwister and the plausibility of such an event ever occurring hasn’t been spelt out yet.

Meanwhile, a third actor is being introduced to set up a love triangle. The producer says that the actor hasn’t been finalised yet.

What about the character of Rucha Gujarathi who is currently cooling her heels in prison? The actress was brought in on an emergency track when Payel fell ill.

Kumar says they might bring her back.

Dheeraj Kumar believes that one of the reasons why dailies don’t have a bank is because, “The broad story remains the same but we have to keep tweaking it in accordance to audience likes and dislikes.” Unhappy Since the plot has shifted to the heroine’s in-laws, her parents will be sidetracked for a while.

Eva Grover, who plays Payel’s aunt says this is routine stuff.

But she is unhappy her negative track hasn’t been explored yet. It’s only in the first 12 episodes that her role was developed she says.
