American TV series

Game Of Thrones

not only has a huge fan following, but it is also a hot favourite for social media humour. While fans of the fantasy drama anxiously await its fifth season later this month, Sony TV's rumoured desi adaptation of the show - Raj Mahal - invited a barrage of jokes.

Even as the makers have denied the report, speculation was rife that actor Sakshi Tanwar (of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain fame) was reprising the role of Daenerys Targaryen aka Mother of Dragons (played by Emilia Clarke).

Rumours also suggested that the show would feature Anita Hassanandani (of Kkavyanjali fame) as the Indian version of Cersei Lannister and teen actor Parth Samthaan as Jon Snow.

From jokes such as, "Qayamat Aa Rahi Hai (taking from the phrase 'Winter is Coming' in the original)", to Sakshi Tanwar's photoshopped photos as Mother of Dragons, the jokes spread like wildfire over the last few days.

Perhaps that's what made the producers give out a clear word. An official from Sony told media "Yes, it's true that we are working on a period drama starring Sakshi [Tanwar] set in the mid-1800s, but it is not at all connected to Game Of Thrones," an official source was quoted as saying.
