In its eight season, travel reality show Beg Borrow Steal got its traveller-host Aaliyah Khan navigating through North-East India, hitchhiking rides and begging for food, all the while being handcuffed to a partner, as required by the show’s format.

In season nine, things will only get harder and more exciting as the show, which airs on Bindass, travels outside the country to the hinterlands of Thailand.

With only Rs.1,000 to sustain her through an eight-day-long arduous journey, a fatigued-yet-determined Aaliyah will be seen completing a series of tasks.

The show also chronicles her successes and failures, and the penalties for the latter, which range from manning a fried insects stall to training in Thai kick boxing and selling wares on a shop on a boat.

“For me, exploring new places is as fun as partying. The challenges this season are 10 notches higher than the last. But the biggest problem in such situations is the language. I used to get blank looks from locals every time I would ask them something. But despite the awkward and helpless situation, they’ve been most cooperative,” she says. Finding edible food was another challenge. “There were times when I’d be hungry but couldn’t make myself eat grasshoppers, beetles or fried cockroaches!”

Adds Shalini Sethi, director, programming, Bindass, “The concept of the show is exciting and Aaliyah takes up every challenge very well. I’m sure our target group — the youth — will relate to it.”

Catch Beg Borrow Steal every Sunday at 7 pm on Bindass.
