After making many popular shows on Indian television, producer
has learnt not to get bothered by TRP ratings. With multiple shows running simultaneously, she tries not to get too bogged down by ratings. “Numbers are a part of our lives and we can’t run away from them. But it doesn’t mean that it makes me happy or sad. Regardless of it, I work harder and push harder, because at the end of the day, if a show does well, it gives so many people jobs…and for me, that is very important,” says Ekta.
Even with so many shows to her name, Ekta finds it tough to think of one character who she can relate to completely. “I can relate to a lot of characters but if you ask me about any one particular character, there is too much fiction involved for any of them to remain true to me. The closest I would say is the character of Pihu from Bade Acche Lagte Hain,” says Ekta, who has shows like Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kasamh Se and Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani to her credit.
While there are some shows which have done exceptionally well and are the face of Indian television, there are a few other shows that have received a lukewarm response at the box office. But Ekta is not deterred by criticism at all. “Criticism is a part of life, I don’t take these things personally. I believe the journey is much more important than the outcome. If I enjoyed making the show, then that is good enough for me. Some shows I really had fun making, but they have not done well, but then I remember the journey and the fun …some shows have been super successful, but have been painful,” says the 39-year-old.
