The UTV Bindaas show, Emotional Atyaachar, that tests the fidelity of one’s partner, will be back on air from August 15. The location has moved, from Mumbai to Delhi. Zarina Screwvala of UTV confirms that Season 2 will flag off on Independence Day: "It’s a great date to return. The shooting will commence next month."
Angad Bedi, who quit the show during the Indian Premier League Season Three, may be back as host, or he could be replaced by Vivan Bhatena. “According to our research, both boys are equally popular, especially with women. So, we might go with either or even alternate between the two according to their availability,” says Screwvala.
Under the scanner
The format of the show remains the same, with one of the partners approaching the channel for a secretive loyalty test being conducted on his or her ‘better’ half.
Emotional Atyaachar came under the scanner following a couple of celebrity episodes, in particular the one featuring newly weds, Rahul Mahajan and Dimpy Ganguly. Social groups and sections of the industry insisted that the episode had been “staged”.
Screwvala insists a show like this can never be “staged”. She says that while they have reached out to young couples who were in doubt, they have turned down requests for help from several celebrities “because we feared that it would make the show look staged”.
“We only agreed to have the Mahajans on the show after pleas from Dimpy,” says Screwvala. What about Bobby Darling? “Her story moved me to tears,” says Screwvala. “Imagine not being allowed near your mother when she’s on her deathbed. That was genuine stuff but following these allegations, I think we will avoid celebrities in Season 2.”
