After starring in the Milkha Singh biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, actor-filmmaker Farhan Akthar is taking his association with sports a bit further. He has been chosen to be the face of the sports channel, ESPN Star Sports (ESS).

In the promos that will air tonight, Farhan will be seen saluting past and current sporting legends for their contribution to the field and encouraging the youth to take up sports.

A source close to Farhan reveals, “The channel was looking for a personality who is determined and focussed, and looking at Farhan’s career graph and versatility, he was chosen. It was Farhan’s dedication while working on the character of Milkha Singh that also worked in his favour.”

To prepare for the role, Farhan worked hard to attain and maintain an athlete’s lean physique. With this film, he is also being seen as one of the few actors working towards promoting sports other than cricket.

The source adds, “Farhan was more than happy to be the face of this promo. One of the key reasons he was chosen was because he is truly passionate about sports and has intense determination.”

ESS is looking to ride the Olympics popularity wave, since it will be a huge TV event. The source adds, “The promo is a motivational and emotional message to the sporting heroes of the country. It is also an encouraging appeal to this billion-strong country to step up, fight and never give up on believing in the power of dreams.”

Farhan’s standout performance in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) has helped turn him into an appealing brand ambassador for the youth.
