After he came all out to promote one of her biggest daily shows, Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Yeh Dharti, Yeh Nadiya, Yeh Raina Aur Tum, soap queen Ekta Kapoor has once again sought daddy Jeetendra’s help; but this time indirectly. She has borrowed the title of one of his biggest hits, Gulzar’s Parichay for her upcoming show on Colors. Sources close to the producer reveal that she not only adores the movie, but also feels it’s lucky because it became a turning point in her father’s career.
Although Ekta is out of the country and unavailable for a comment, the director of the show, Ravindra Gautam says, “She never discusses such subjects with me. Our discussions are usually centered on the stories of our shows and characters. But it’s correct that the title invariably reminds everyone of Jeetendra as a teacher in the hit movie. And if she has taken the title for the reason mentioned, I think there’s nothing wrong in having your father by your side in some way or the other.”
The director was working on the show till July 26 and has now started working on Parichay that flags off next Tuesday. It’s said that the producer considers him to be her lucky mascot as well. “It’s probably my eighth or ninth show with Ekta. And she has so much faith in me that she entrusts me with most of her key shows. I’ve left Bade Acche… after setting it up in such a way that any director can push the storyline around. And Ekta won’t really look at her directors as lucky mascots. She would rather hire someone who she believes will execute her perspective,” Ravindra explains.
Parichay, toplining Samir Soni, went on floors on July 27. The daily soap revolves around a man named Kunal Chopra (Soni), who is a loser. He’s a Punjabi middle-class guy with a complex personality and will be seen trying to get over his failures. Apparently, the story has been narrated in a complicated flashback-flashforward format. “No, it’s a very linear storyline,” asserts Ravindra. “Ekta just said that she needed me to anchor the show for her. There’s nothing complicated about it.”
