Fauji No 2 finds his mother
Shruti Ulfat makes her comeback after three years, steps into Renuka Shahane Rana’s shoes in Fauji 2, reports Rachana Dubey.tv Updated: Nov 09, 2009 21:19 IST
As reported last month, Renuka Shahane Rana was waiting for Red Chilies Idiot Box to come back to her with the offer to play Dr Madhu Rai. She was supposed to play the older fauji Abhimanyu Rai’s wife and the new fauji, Abhimanyu’s (Pulkit Samrat) mother.
Now, news is that Shruti Ulfat has been taken on board to play the same role. Buzz is that she might soon start shooting with Shah Rukh Khan, whom she has worked with earlier in her career in a few films.
When asked Ulfat, she confirmed that she had taken on the coveted role and adds that she has already begun shooting for the show.
“I’ve started reporting to work a few days ago. I was on a self-imposed break because I had just delivered my baby. Now that it is old enough for me to start working, I have resumed,” she adds.
Would she be shooting with Shah Rukh Khan, given that the actor has gone on record to say that he would not play a father to anyone anywhere anytime, she says, “We might shoot together soon because we need to show where and how Abhimanyu Rai and Madhu met. She is a doctor in the army and he of course, is an official. It might not be a bulky schedule but the flashbacks will be essential to take the story from where it stopped last.”
Ulfat apparently isn’t aware that Renuka Shahane Rana had been approached to play the same role and she has eventually stepped into her shoes.
According to the actress, it was important for her to come back with a strong role. “I don’t know who else was approached for what. But I know this role is crucial for my career because it’s an elderly lady’s role, the kind I’ve never done before. It’s also one of the central characters of the show. One rarely finds roles which are so well-written. I couldn’t have asked for a better comeback because it’s not too stressful and it pays well,” beams Ulfat.
Fauji 2 is expected to be on air on Colors in the last week of December or the first week of January 2010. It’s expected to launch soon after Bigg Boss 3 ends, as a biweekly over theweekend.
So is Shruti Ulfat under pressure? “No. I was in school when the show aired on Doordarshan. I don’t recollect much. All of us newbies on board have been given a brief about where and how the show started and ended, so that we know the backstories of all our characters,” says Ulfat.
Other than Ulfat, Roopal Tyagi will be playing one of the parallel leads along with Ankeeta Bharrgava. However, the leading lady of the show hasn’t been finalised as yet. She’s expected to be on the show only after 20 episodes, after the story and allied characters have been set.
