Back from a year-long break, actor Mona Singh talks about taking up a new show as a host.

Mona Singh will be seen on the small screen after a hiatus of a year. After her last show, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, ended in August last year, the 33-year-old went vacationing to numerous countries. Now, she is back to work. The actor is all set to host a show again, albeit in a new avatar. Here, Mona talks about her experiences as a TV presenter, and why she is keen to do a daily soap as well.

You seem to gravitate towards hosting on TV. Why?

I love hosting, since it comes naturally to me, especially when I have to be funny. But for my new show, I wanted to do something different. I haven’t done serious hosting, where I am not smiling or cracking jokes. So, that is quite challenging. I will be on TV after a long time, but with a dangerous look (laughs).

How will this show be different?

The show is based on true crimes, and I will be presenting a segment about serial killers. The stories are so shocking. It’s evident that truth is stranger than fiction. Also, the chaste Hindi that I am required to speak on the show is unlike how I speak in real life, so that is tough for me. But, I am having fun.

You took off for a year. Did you miss acting?

I have been travelling, and I love it. Whenever I get a break, I go to a new place. This time, I picked up hobbies and tried new things. I went scuba diving, and bought a new drum-like instrument called the Djembe. I also did a play with Rohit Roy. So, I didn’t miss acting per se. The play was challenging. It was in English, and I was doing theatre for the first time. The play had many bold scenes and covered similar topics, so I pushed the envelope with that.

There are rumours of you doing Ekta Kapoor’s next show with Iqbal Khan. Are they true?

Well, all I can say is that I am doing a show. I can’t talk about it (smiles).

Are you ready to take on a daily soap?

I am ready to take on a challenging role; something that gives me an adrenaline rush. I always wanted to do different kinds of shows, and showcase a new side to me. That is why I am choosy. I am lucky to be able to pick from various options, from theatre and films to TV. There were other shows in the offing too, but nothing excited has me enough till now.
