The jazzy set of the Zee TV show at Famous Studios, Mahalaxmi, was reeling under heavy lighting. It twitched to red, crystal-silver, golden brown and a velvety shade time and again.
It’s the same stage which has witnessed some exceptional out-of-the box performances. The enthusiastic audience was mulling over how Master Terence Lewis made his students dance to old school jazz on Inhi logon ne le liya. And why not.. it was here where Vrushali Chavan and Jai Kumar set the stage ablaze with their sensual kamasutra act.
The shoot was running way behind schedule. Reason: fussy anchors.. who were not ready till their call time. Never mind.. the audience caught up with some behind-the-scenes action.
Alisha Singh and Sunita Gogol, all dolled up, were catching up with the badly injured contestant, Mayuresh Wadker. Both his hands were under bandage. Chocolate boy Mohammed Salman was moving around in a pair of blue trousers and a white vest. He blissfully ignored the director’s request to put on his shirt. Instead, he happily trained Remo D’Souza’s sons.. who were special guests on the set.
The kids’ dance item was a surprise for D’Souza who had choreographed all the performances for the evening. Twenty-three-year-old Salman, a mechanical engineer, was planning to study further but destiny had other plans.
“It’s unbelievable. Families abandon their weekend plans to watch our show,” he said with a wide grin. On his favourite performance, he said, “If today’s gig is a hit.. it will beat all my previous moves.”
To pack or not
Meanwhile, Prince, the king of popping, entered in a robot costume. His hair, face and boots were in silver. Siddhesh Pai was overwhelmed when journalists queued up to interact with him. But the real drama unfolded when grand master, Mithun Chakraborty, arrived in a velvet blue outfit.
“Where’s my table fan?” he scowled.. threatening to pack-up right then and there. So, the production team fumbled and got into action. One of the girls looked petrified.
Watching her wide-eyed, he broke into peals of laughter and the set roared. His jokes continued. The targets were the chic looking hosts, Jai Bhanushali and Saumya Tandon.
In between performances, Geeta Kapur and Lewis revealed their dance school dreams. So what has made the show such an entertainer? “It’s not us.. neither is it the celebrities.. it’s the crazy content,” said the super confident Lewis.
He confessed to being exhausted when it came to ideas.. after all one doesn’t come across jive set to Naino mein sapana.. sapno mein sajna too often.
The count began.. and once again, the unimaginable dances took off with the good luck take by the director .. and once again.. the repetitive thank-you speeches and “please vote for me” appeals were thrown at the audience.
