Avika Gor is a busy girl. With a successful TV show — Sasuraal Simar Ka (SSK) — currently on air, the young actor is now making a debut in regional cinema with a Telugu film, Uyyala Jampala. Besides, she is also trying her hand at the various aspects of film-making such as scriptwriting and editing. In this interview, she tells us about all these things and more.
Tell us about your Telugu film, Uyyala Jampala.
It’s my debut and a cute love story about a boy and a girl who are childhood friends. I play a 17-year-old college girl who dreams about her future and her Mr Right.
Have you been offered other regionals films as well?
Yes, I’ve got offers from Tamil, Kannada, Gujarati as well as Hindi film-makers.
The trailer of the film introduces you as Anandi. How do you feel about it?
It’s wonderful to be called Anandi as that’s what people know me as everywhere. I’ve been called futri, beendni, laddo, chuhiya, and Roli, and I love those names too. However, they (the film-makers) will put my real name in the credits.
You are a teenager but you play a grown-up on your TV show SSK and the movie. Does it feel awkward to do romantic scenes?
Romantic scenes are part and parcel of being an actor. It’s just acting. When I have a romantic scene, the writers and the director take care to keep it suitable to my age and ensure it never crosses limits.
Why didn’t you choose a Bollywood film instead of a Telugu one, especially since you’ve been a child actor in the Hindi film industry?
I’ve been part of films and shows like Balika Vadhu and SSK. Although I am doing films, I won’t quit TV. I’m ready to learn and use every good opportunity. I’m making a short film, writing a script, learning to edit and have choreographed at times on my TV show. My other passion is photography. I also want to try radio and modelling. I want to dabble in everything (laughs). Why stop when there is so much to do and learn?
Are you still pursuing your dream to be Miss Universe?
Yes. I want to reach out to as many people as possible but more so, to be socially involved and help people in need. If not Miss Universe, I shall find another way to do that.
