Her personal life had threatened to swamp her professional achievements. Now that things are smoother on the family front, Karisma Kapur is under pressure to make a Bollywood comeback. However, she is content for now in her position as a dance show judge, and says only a very strong script can “drag her back to the film sets.”
Kapur is called one of the softer judges on Nach Baliye 4 — not the sort who reduces contestants to tears. “I can’t be harsh,” she admits. “We are like one big family.” Talking about her own family troubles — her split and patch-up with Sanjay Kapur — the actress tries to sound unperturbed: “I’ve been in the industry for 17-18 years. I’ve seen several ups and downs. As long as you and your family know the truth, nothing else matters.”
It’s my life
She reacts with a little more heat when asked whether she is shifting base from Delhi to move in with her mother Babita and sister Kareena Kapoor in Mumbai. “Honestly, I don’t think it’s anyone’s concern where I live.. why’s everyone so bothered about that?” she retorts.
Kapur says about her younger sister, “Bebo has worked extremely hard. In the beginning, everyone said that she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and that she had me to fall back on. “But at the end of the day, your work speaks for you. Kareena is not only known for being a glamorous actress but also a very good artiste.”
As for her sister’s love life, Kapur claims that marriage with boyfriend Saif Ali Khan is not on the cards. “We’ve always been a very open family. When she is ready to settle down, the whole world will know,” says the proud sister. “She is very busy with work. Even I don’t get to see Bebo!”
No judgements please
She has no comments on how good — or otherwise — Saif Ali Khan is for her sister. “I’d rather not pass judgement on their relationship.. it’s a personal thing.” Finally, the actress says taking care of her family is her priority rather than rebuilding her career. “My husband and daughter are my priorities,” she smiles. “Running after Samaira has kept me so fit.”
