I’d host rather than compete in a reality show: Aamna Sharif
Actor Aamna Sharif’s comeback show might not be fetching good TRPs, but she says that she has no regrets doing it since she chose it from the many that were offered to hertv Updated: Jan 30, 2013 19:35 IST
Aamna Sharif became a household name with her debut show Kahin Toh Hoga. Her character, Kashish, a homely girl, struck an instant chord with the soap-watching population. However, she soon quit television to try her luck in Bollywood.
In 2009, she starred as the leading lady in films such as Aloo Chaat and Aao Wish Kare, both of which failed to make a mark on the box office. She recently returned to the small screen with Honge Juda Na Hum (HJNH). In this interview, the actor speaks about this show and her future plans on and off screen.
Your comeback show was hyped a lot but didn’t deliver adequate TRPs?
Well, that isn’t in the hands of an actor. We can only give our hundred per cent. The story and the content are more important for audiences. Of course, actors matter too, but in the end, TV is all about characters. And if that works, then audiences relate to the show..
There was another show in the offing for your comeback. It was a love story between a younger guy and older woman.
Do you think doing an edgier show would have helped you?
Not really. I was offered a lot of concepts and, yes, there was a show like that which was offered, but I preferred HJNH as I wanted to stick to a romantic genre. I don’t have any regrets doing HJNH. I was also offered many reality shows but didn’t take them up. I would host rather than compete in a reality show.
Your linkups with Aftab Shivdasani and Rajeev Khandelwal were the talk of the town?
They were all rumours. The day I am with someone I will be proud to tell the world. I guess linkups are a part and parcel of the industry. If you are seen with someone a couple of times, you get linked. I don’t feel the need to clarify. I don’t feel the need to be in the news via link ups. I come from a simple, conservative family.
Have you thought of settling down? Would you like to have a love or an arranged marriage?
I really don’t know. I don’t plan. I don’t decide things like that — be it career or personal life. I would wait to fall in love before I decide to get married. When it happens, I will go with the follow.
