Singlehood, films, link-ups.... Catch television actress Rakshanda Khan in a chat with Riya V Anandwala.
You're not doing much these days. Even your character in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is hardly seen.
It's a conscious decision to stay away from shows. There's nothing interesting happening on television. I can't devote 18 hours a day to a show if I'm not excited about the work.
But with Kyunki, it's not my decision, it's the creative team which decides.
But are you happy with the way your track is shaping up?
I don't think I can do anything about it. That's how it is. Nandini is back and it's important to concentrate on her character. It's difficult for them to accommodate two wives in the same frame. <b1>
How come Ekta Kapoor hasn't offered you any other show?
The day I get offered something that is worth giving up my life for, I will go for it.
But if you stay out of sight for so long, don't you think you'll fade out of public memory?
Yes, that can happen. But I've always been lucky regarding work. It has always come my way. Touchwood!
Your role in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi was very popular. You haven't done anything like that in a long time.
Mallika was by far the best character I have ever portrayed. I don't think they write characters like that any more.
What about anchoring events?
Oh, that's completely on track. I had missed out on several opportunities earlier but not any more. There has to be a fine balance between fictional soaps and events.
And your company?
Yeah.. it's an event management company called Celebrity Lockers. The idea is to promote television actors abroad. Our company is a one-stop shop for everything.
Are you dubbing for any other Hollywood movie after The Incredibles?
I haven't got any offers after that. But I had a complete blast doing it. I was always afraid to go for dubbing but it was just fantastic.
Why have you kept away from films?
I've never wanted to be in films.. I was very clear on that. There have been some really good offers but I've turned them down. It's a mental block. But you'll see me in Balaji's Khel Khel Mein. It's a five minute appearance.
What about reality shows?
I don't mind anchoring them. But being a contestant is way too much pressure. And I don't have the competitive edge to win. I am very complacent.
It's said that your co-stars find you rather intimidating.
I don't know. I think I'm a very easy-going person very accessible. On the sets of Jassi, my co-stars didn't speak to me initially. It's a drawback but sometimes it helps, this keeps away unwanted people.
You have been linked with Sachin Tyagi and Irfan Pathan.
(Smiles) I don't even know Irfan. The tabloids inform me about the men in my lives isn't that funny? But I guess it's a part of the package.
So, you're not seeing anyone?
Now that I am on a break, I hope to get a private life. How can I find a man in places like Kanjurmarg where I have been shooting 24X7?
