A few months ago, the hero of one of the leading dailies, Sapnaa Babul ka Bidaai on Star Plus, announced that he was married for three years and hid his marriage to keep the fan following.
Now, another hero reveals that he’s not single either. After Angad Hasija, it’s Karan Mehra, the hero of the top-rated Star Plus soap, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, who’s decided to make his relationship official.
Naitik, as all his fans address him, is dating Nisha Rawal, a model-turned actress. The two have steadily taken their relationship from friendship to companionship. When asked Mehra, he confirmed: “Yes, it’s Nisha. We met on the sets of her film Hastey Hastey in New York. I was her stylist. We got along well in those one and a half months that the shoot lasted. After returning, we stayed in touch. We would meet often and hang around together. Even before we realised, we had become dependent on each other in a lot of ways.”
Speculations about whom the chocolate hero was dating have been making the rounds for over a year. When asked why had he been denying his relationship, he reasons that he was waiting for the right time to announce it: “It wasn’t because I was afraid of losing female fans. They will continue to love me because now they know that I am not just romantic on screen, I’m romantic off it too. It was just a matter of realising that she’s the one and I’m actually in love.”
The actor, who had once styled Amitabh Bachchan for an ad commercial and who’s a professional fashion designer, had first seen Rawal in Sonu Niigaam’s music video, Chanda ki doli and had wished for a girlfriend like her. “She’s a beautiful soul and great pal. I’m so much at ease with her around me. I like her also because she’s very professional at work and carries herself impressively,” adds Mehra, who also brings in his birthday today.
Apparently, Mehra and Rawal, Lokhandwala denizens, meet everyday before reporting for work and after returning from work too. It’s also rumoured that she packs lunch for him everyday. When asked, Mehra only blushes for an answer. “I didn’t want my personal life to become everyone’s business. I wanted to be known for my work before people would know whom I was dating. Now, I’m at ease,” he says when prodded further.
So, would they tie the knot soon? Mehra, 27, is not sure on the plan at the moment. “I would love to marry and settle down. But there’s a correct time for everything. Ideally, both the partners should be ready for it, personally and professionally. Our parents should agree too,” he states.
Don’t his parents pressurize him to marry soon? He replies: “They are not Naitik’s parents who will marry him off when he’s 23. Age is not the criteria. My character was ready to wed at 23. Boys aren’t all the same. And I’m not commitment phobic, for sure!”
