'I regret not taking on Rock On!!'
My assignments on television left me with no time, says actor Vivan Bhatena as he tells Anil Merani about how he missed the offer.tv Updated: Oct 27, 2008 13:22 IST
Actor Vivan Bhatena chats with
about his his jail track in
and his second movie.
How’s the jail track in
(Laughs) Thankfully it has come to an end. I’m out of jail now.
The soap isn’t going great guns...
Well, it’s been two years, so a certain amount of viewer fatigue is bound to creep in. But we’re still among the top 10 shows. Maayka is as important to Zee as Kahani Ghar Ghar ki was to Star Plus.
Aren’t you tired of playing the same character?
The creative team has tried its best to introduce variations in the story. And I’ve brought about different shades in Shabd.
What went wrong with Star One’s Chhoona Hai Aasman?
Chhoona Hai.. was an airforce drama. It’s not easy to shoot outdoor action scenes for such a daily. If the show had been a weekly, it might have been a different ball game.
Also, Star One hardly publicised it. We didn’t travel to many cities to promote it. Even Iqbal Khan called it quits because it wasn’t treated the way it should have been. Yet, I was noticed for playing a negative role.. they even extended Samrat’s track. Chhoona Hai.. had a limited viewership all right, but we had our loyal fans.
You recently did a cameo in Bidaai..
I did that for the producer, Rajan Shahi. Unfortunately, word spread that I was looking for cameos and I was flooded with one-episode offers. It took me a while to convince producers that I was looking for full-fledged roles.
What kind of role?
A negative one preferably. I’m not scared of being typecast. I believe my face lends itself to positive as well as negative
characters. I’ve been around for 12 years now and I’d hate to be known as a one-hit wonder. I’m game for anything that’s fun.
After your teeny-weeny role in Chak De! India, what’s next at the movies?
I’m in a Yash Raj film. I don’t mind cameos as long as I’m presented well. And by the way, that teeny-weeny role in Chak De made me pretty popular.
Why don’t you take on reality shows?
It’s a conscious decision.. reality shows over-expose you. They also get rather personal.. with the arguments, judging.
Most of the dance shows expect non-dancers to compete with professional dancers.
Hey, but you know what, I wouldn’t mind taking on Fear Factor.
I believe you were supposed to be a part of Rock On!!
Yes and I really regret not having taken it on. My assignments on television left me with no time.
How’s marriage treating you?
It has stabilised my life. Nikhila is my anchor.
