Akshay Kumar will be back as the host of Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 4 on June 3. The actor is amused over previous speculations that Salman Khan or Ajay Devgn were going to host Colors’ flagship reality show this time, after a not-too-successful stint with Priyanka Chopra last year.
"I don’t know how these rumours started, since I was signed four months ago," he retorts, pointing out that he gets a lot of offers for other shows too, but they don’t interest him. "KKK interests me because I’m an action hero. Ditto for Master Chef because I’ve worked as a chef and love cooking. I understand the content and can contribute with my own inputs instead of just searching for stuff online."
Akshay was so keen to return to KKK that he took a cut in his fee and gave away the dates he’d allotted to 3D film Joker, whose release has got pushed forward to next year. "My fee remains the same and Joker is my own production, so I could take those dates," he reasons, adding that he’s working double shifts to ensure that Joker is on schedule. "It was always meant to be a 2011 summer release and is coming along well. I was impressed by the 3D effects in Vikram Bhatt’s Haunted and would like to take the effort forward. Shirish (Kunder, director) is a good technician and Vikram messaged to offer his expertise. Such camaraderie amongst the fraternity is heart-warming."
We’ve seen a lot of camaraderie amongst the KKK contestants, but this time, the 13 ladies and their partners were put through torture in South Africa? "Yes, we had to live up to the season’s tagline, Khatron Ke Khiladi - Torchaar," he laughs. "It was like a military camp and the stunts were cable-free. So there were falls, bruises, scorpion and snakebites. For me too, since I’m more of a participant than a host. I’m not there simply to watch."
Have they forgiven him yet? "Well, a few did write to tell me that being on the show had changed their lives, so I guess they have," he says.
The line-up of pretty faces includes models (Diandra Soares Alidia Raut, Poonam Pandey), VJs (Mia Uyeda, Bani), singer (Mauli Dave), starlets (Kashmera Shah, Sambhavna Seth, Aashka Goradia, Smita Bansal, Aarti Chhabria), an ex-cricketer (Anjum Chopra) and a celebrity wife (Dina Vindoo Singh). Even before the flag off, the winner, Aarti, has been revealed. Akshay is unfazed, "Last year too some names cropped up. All this is part of the game and it won't spoil the suspense."
